Imphal, March 29, 2014:
A one-day discussion programme on Status of Child Welfare Schemes in Manipur was held today at Classic Hotel under the aegis of the Wide Angle Social Development Organisation in association with Child Rights & You (CRY).
Indigenous Perspective, Woman and Child unit director Nandini Thokchom, Manipur Alliance for Child Rights convenor K Pradip, ICPS State Programme Officer Mala Lisham, Ashim Ghosh of CRY and Family Welfare Joint Director Usha Kh took part in the discussion programme which was moderated by Impact TB Editor-in-Chief Y Rupachandra.
Nandini Thokchom observed that child welfare schemes being implemented in the State lack proper monitoring.
Mala Lisham said that the Integrated Child Protection Scheme was taken up after bundling all child welfare schemes so that children can enjoy all the four rights recommended by the Convention on the Right of Child.
The scheme would cover all children who need protection as well as children who have committed unlawful activities and facing risks of any kind.
Establishment of Child Protection Societies has been completed in all districts of Manipur under ICPS.
The State Child Protection Society has also been set up.
For child delivery in Government hospitals, charges for necessary investigations, drugs and transport are being borne by JSSK taken up under National Rural Health Mission, said Usha Kh.
In case of illness to newly born children, JSSK provides necessary expenditures for medical examination and treatment until the children is one year old, she added.
Another scheme taken up under NRHM is RBSK.
The scheme covers all children born with physical deformities, infections, mental problems and malnutrition.
