Imphal, May 21 2013:
The elected Ward Development members' Association, Ningthoukhong Municipal council has appealed to the Government to intervene immediately and resolve ongoing disputes between the ruling and opposition members of the council as internal wrangling had been impeding effective implementation of various welfare programmes.
speaking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club, here today, Association secretary general Pukhrambam Prabin said that consequent to the opposition councillors raising a 'no confidence' motion on January 7, 2013 to protest various irregularities in the Council, the local body has been in disarray thereby resulting in non-implementation of various schemes such as distribution of food items under PDS, APL, AAY, etc and material provisions under housing scheme.
The Association secretary also regretted absence of positive measures by the authorities concerned even as the issue was highlighted in the form of a sit-in-protest by the elected ward members on January 30 and subsequent memorandum submitted to the MLA, DC (Bishnupur) and EO of the council.
Prabin also clarified that news paper reports implicating the local MLA is irrelevant and unjustifiable as the said incumbent is neither in favour nor against any group of the Council.
