Kangla witnesses healthy turn out

The Kangla palace was teeming with tourists on Sunday as people came out in groups to visit the ruins of ancient Manipur.
The Kangla Fort, the ancient capital of Manipur is open to tourists six days a week (the fort remains closed on Wednesdays).
The fort gates are opened at 9 am and remains open till 5 pm in summer and 4 pm in winter.
One must buy a ticket from the ticket counter set up at the gate to enter the fort.
The ticket price ranges from Rs 10 for adult Indian citizens, Rs 50 for foreigners and Rs 5 for students.

Private vehicles are prohibited inside the fort so tourist have to walk around to see the ancient palace.
Much to the relief of tourists, Manipur Cycle Club recently introduced bicycle rental services inside the fort.
The club charges Rs 20 per bicycle for an hour.
Manipur Cycle Club caretaker Tomba Laishram manages the cycles (18 nos.) at the fort.
The rental service was introduced in 2014 during Sangai Festival, the caretaker told The Sangai Express today.
The fort is always packed with tourists on Sundays, Tomba said making the day's earning at Rs 1700 .
Manipur Cycle Club also hopes to introduce rickshaw services at the fort soon.
Security personnel posted at the fort had a hard time managing the teeming tourists.
