Woman missing since June 11 found dead

Imphal, June 19 2016:
Body of a 21-year-old unmarried woman who has been missing since June 11 has been found floating in Thoubal canal in a highly decomposed state today.
The woman is suspected to have been raped and murdered before she was dumped into the canal, around 200 metres to the south of Thoubal police station.
The woman has been identified as Elangbam Kanan (21) d/o Churamani of Khangabok Part-2 Khullakpam Leikai.
According to information culled from the spot, some farmers who happened to pass the area came across the body at around 9 am.
Later, police cordoned off the area and called forensic experts.
After conducting full inquest of the area, the body was recovered and deposited at JNIMS morgue in the afternoon.
Thoubal police have taken up a case regarding the incident.
A local leader said that the victim has been missing since the morning of June 11.The woman's family had filed a missing report at Thoubal police station on June 14 .
He said that the young woman is suspected to have been raped and brutally murdered as her inner wear was found wrapped on her neck.
He further said that he saw a packet of condom and the girl's 'urik' floating near the body.
He informed the reporters that the locals have resolved not to claim Kanan's body until the culprits are arrested.
Regarding the incident, a JAC would be formed soon to press the Government to arrest the killers.
A villager said that the woman is mentally unsound due to a road accident which occurred around 10 years back.
A few years back, the woman was found walking at Yairipok after she remained traceless for many days, the villager added.
