Imphal, February 05 2021:
The JAC against diversion of Trans Asian Highway-1 (Tumuyon Khullen to Tumnoupokpi) has called a 72-hour Inter-State chakka bandh from midnight of February 8 .
A press release issued by the JAC also warned of more intense agitations after the bandh if NHIDCL don't stop road diversion works until the issue is amicably resolved.
Alleging silence and negligence of the Government, the JAC stated that Chief Minister, MP (Outer), MLA Saitu AC, Managing Director of NHIDCL and DC Kangpokpi have not yet acknowledged the joint petition submitted by chairmen of all affected villages.
Movement of Inter-State trucks, goods carriers and buses will be restricted during the bandh.
However, vehicles ferrying medical supplies and military convoys will be exempted, the JAC maintained.
The Southern Tahamzam Naga Council (STNC) in a press note has also endorsed the 72 hours Inter-State chakka bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against NH-2/AH-1 diversion.
STNC making its stance on the issue stated that the demand of JAC against NH-2/AH-1 diversion is "genuine & acceptable" .
The unreasonable proposal to deviate the present alignment by a few individuals for vested interest is highly condemnable and communally influenced, for which the STNC will stand together with the demands of the JAC, it asserted.
Notably, the Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) & Senapati District Women's have also expressed their resentment against the same issue recently.
