Meanwhile shopkeepers of Lilong Bazar today staged a protest demonstration against the alleged failure of the police to investigate the case properly even after one suspect has been pulled up.
According to Lilong Bazar Shopkeepers' Welfare Association president Md Nizamuddin, one laptop, a number of mobile phone handsets, accessories and Rs 5000 in cash were stolen from the shop which was one run by one Md Sabir (25) s/o Abdul Helim of Kyamgei Muslim Mamang Leikai.
One Sarif Khan (21) s/o Noor Jaman of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai, who was suspected to be involved in the burglary was pulled up by police the next morning.
Sarif Khan was caught on CCTV camera installed in the shop and the same footage was shown to police, Nizamuddin said.
Even as Sarif tried to run away from Lilong police station towards the western paddy fields, he was chased and nabbed by police after firing a few rounds of shots in the air at around 7.45 pm of October 16 .
It was against such lackadaisical and casual nature of the police in dealing with the burglary case that the shopkeepers staged a protest demonstration, Nizamuddin said.
