Ukhrul, July 07 2026:
The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) have vehemently condemned the ambush in Ukhrul which killed two Assam Rifles personnel yesterday.
Amid the fragile and volatile situation prevailing in Manipur, the incident yesterday has seriously jeopardised the efforts of the Tangkhul civil society organisations (CSOs) towards the restoration of peace and normalcy, said the Working Committee, TNL .
The ambush carried out by armed miscreants occurred near Lungshang River along National Highway 202 at about 1.45 pm on July 6 .
It killed two AR personnel, Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar Chandra Mohan Singh.
TNL said the Tangkhul community is expressing grief and its deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
The authorities concerned should immediately launch an enquiry and find out the responsible party involved.
While no group has claimed responsibility, it said, "There are certain elements attempting to polarise the situation by indulging in speculation and blame-game.
Such a move could sabotage the hard-earned atmosphere of understanding, tolerance and respect established among the sections of society" .
Condemning the ambush, the Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) said it is appealing to all to reject violence and choose the path of peace and understanding.
"Let no more mothers be forced to mourn their children because of armed conflict and hatred.
Human life is precious and it must be protected at all cost," it said.
It also urged authorities concerned to conduct a fair and impartial investigation, and ensure accountability in accordance with the law and take all necessary measures to maintain peace and security in the region.
