Imphal, October 20 2015:
One advocate has been accused of deceiving his own client after taking a certain amount as fee for fighting two legal cases in two Courts in total contravention of his professional ethics.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, Thokchom (O) Bina (65) of Heirok Part-2 Thokchom Leikai said that one advocate from Thoubal Athokpam took Rs 49,000 from her to fight two legal cases in two Courts but the advocate never appeared in the Courts in connection with the case.
The amount of Rs 49,000 was collected in different phases since December last year by the advocate under the pretext of appearing on behalf of Bina at the Court of SDC Heirok in connection with a demarcation/mutation case and the Court of CJM Thoubal in connection with Cril Misc Case U/S 144(2) of CrPC.
"But on enquiry at the two Courts, I was told that no petitions were filed on behalf of me", Bina said.
