Kangpokpi, July 07 2026:
The Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA) has strongly condemned the alleged attack on Thingkhongjang village in Kangpokpi district, describing it as a "heinous terror attack" on civilians during Sunday worship and urging the Centre and the State Government to immediately identify and apprehend those responsible.
In a statement, the association alleged that armed cadres of the NSCN-IM and its proxy group, ZUF (Kamson), carried out a coordinated attack on Thingkhongjang village under Geljang Sub-Division at around 5 pm on Sunday, when villagers had gathered for prayer.
According to SAHILCA the assailants allegedly detonated an explosive device before opening indiscriminate fire towards the church premises, injuring a woman and a child.
The attack also reportedly damaged a residential house and partially damaged the church building and property within its compound, forcing villagers, including women, children and elderly persons, to flee to safety.
Expressing concern over what it called an apparent security lapse, SAHILCA urged the Government of India and the Manipur government to launch a transparent, impartial and timebound investigation, strengthen security in vulnerable villages, and provide immediate medical, humanitarian and rehabilitation assistance to the affected families.
