Call it a bizzare incident or an instance of law of nature, a vulture was killed by a herd of cattle as the bird attacked a calf at a paddy field located near Slopeland Public, Khangabok at around 2 pm today.
On getting information of the incident, a team of People for Animal (PFA), Thoubal rushed to the spot to save the calf and the bird.
However, the vulture which was found in an unconcious state died soon after the PFA team reached the spot.
According to a PFA press release, the calf which suffered multiple injuries was freed to join the herd after giving first aid.
Saying that vultures have become a rare bird species in Manipur, the press release said that the vulture might be starving for many days.
Saying that vultures normally survive on dead and decayed animal meat, the press release said that the bird might be starving for many days as it has now become hard to get dead animals in Manipur these days.
The bird would be disposed off in the presence of Forest Department officials, the press release added.
