The prime suspect in the murder case of Chanambam (O) Gam-bhini (57) of Wabagai Thambal Chingya Cheirao Chingkhong has been found dead at Tentha Jayanti Wapal, located between Tentha and Ekop lake in Thoubal district this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Oinam Amujao (28) s/o Pakpi of Wabagai Tera Urak Lamyeng Ching.
It is said that Amujao was taken away from his house by a large number of people at around 2.30 am today.
They also damaged a portion of his house before they took him away.
Later in the morning, some passers-by came across Amu-jao's body at Tentha Jayanti Wapal.
He is believed to have been beaten to death there as his body bore many injury marks and his face soaked with blood.
He also bore an injury mark on his left middle finger.
It may be mentioned that Gambhini's husband Rajen had said that he bit the left middle finger of the assailant, who stabbed his wife dead.
A shirt with blood stains was also found lying near the body.
A team of Thoubal police station picked up the body and deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem examination at around 7.30 am.
Local sources said that Amujao used to buy things on credit from Gambhini's shop.
On November 26 morning, he allegedly asked Gambhini to give some cigarettes on credit.
However, Gambhini turned down his request telling him that she did allow credit in the morning.
Infuriated over Gambhini's denial, Amujao allegedly stabbed Gambhini to death after a brief altercation.
It is said that Gambhini's husband Rajen bit Amujao's left middle finger before he fled the area.
Meanwhile, Gambhini's body has been claimed by her family and JAC members from JNIMS morgue today.
Post mortem examination of her body was conducted in the presence of a Duty Magistrate with full video coverage at the morgue.
It may be mentioned that Gambhini and her husband run a shop at Wabagai Thambal Chingya Cheirao Chingkhong, around 2 km away from their residence.
Locals had already formed a JAC against the incident and threatened that they would not claim Gambhini's body if the police fails to arrest Amujao within 48 hours.
