Imphal, November 28 2015 :
Chief Secretary O Nabakishore has invited ideas and suggestions from the people on how to make Imphal a smart City.
The Chief Secretary was speaking at a press meet held at the conference hall of Old Manipur Secretariat today.
Imphal is among the 98 cities shortlisted for the Smart City Mission, an innovative and new initiative by the Government of India to bolster economic growth and improve quality of life of people.
These 98 cities were selected through the City Challenge Stage-I participated by 5000 Indian cities.
The State now has to compete in City Challenge Stage-II in order to secure a place among the first 20 cities to be selected during the current financial year.
This is a crucial stage as each city is expected to come up with a smart city proposal incorporating two essentials - a pan city feature and one area based development.
As such, Chief Secretary O Naba-kishore has urged the public to submit their ideas and proposals on how to make Imphal a smart city to the concerned Department.
MAHUD Secretary RK Dinesh Singh said the department would select the most innovational ideas from those submitted by the public and the State Government.
A list of these ideas for smart city would then be submitted to the Ministry to compete for a place in the first list.
Altogether 100 cities are competing to be among first 20 cities for the Smart City Mission.
Dinesh also urged the people to share their ideas on ways to make Imphal a smart city.
Imphal Municipal Corporation Executive Officer Ng Uttam said his department has begun spreading awareness regarding the mission through television and radio programmes.
The Department has also set up a stall (Stall No.18) at the Sangai Festival wherein a drop box has been placed encouraging visitors to share their ideas with the department.
The department will also award the best opinion each day to encourage more people to share their ideas, he said.
The people can also submit their ideas and suggestions to www.imc.mn.gov.in/SmartCitySuggestions.
MAHUD Director N Tejkumar said the department have made arrangements to collect innovational ideas/opinions from self help groups under Imphal Municipal council.
A report based on the ideas and suggestions made by the public would be submitted to the Ministry on December 15, he added.
