Imphal, May 05 2014:
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has decided to help interested local people of the State in opening laundry shops, hair cutting saloons and shoe polish vendors.
In a press statement, JCIPLS requested the interested unemployed persons to take part in a deliberation session to be held at JCILPS office at Nongmeibung Nambam Chuthek at 11 am on May 11 in this regard.
The Committee said that influx of non-local workers have worsened the unemployment problem in the State.
Saying that the State has more than eight lakh unemployed persons, JCIPLS said that many skilled local workers are not getting work due to unchecked influx of non-local migrant workers.
The situation is becoming worse day by day as the State Labour Department has not taken up any step to register the workers migrated from other States, the press release said.
Non-local workers must be allowed to work in the State under when when they are registered with the State Labour Department under a proper policy, the press release said.
Saying that unchecked influx of non-local workers would worsen the problem of unemployment which would in turn affect the economy of the State, the press release said that the Committee has decided to help interested persons of the State in opening their own laundry shops, hair cutting saloons and shoe polish vendors.
On the otherhand, the Committee pointed out that the State Government is yet to implement Inner Line Permit System despite the fact that the State Assembly had unanimously passed it twice.
The delay in implementing ILPS in the State indicates lack of 'political will' of the State Government, the press release observed.
