Imphal, December 30 2012:
A one-day 'consultation on legal intervention for effective implementation of MGNREGS' organised by Human Rights Law Network and Manipur State Legal Authority was held today at Lamyanba Pakhang Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Stressing that targeted beneficiaries of MGNREGS programmes need to be aware of their rights and whether or not the Central-sponsored welfare programmes are being implemented in a judicious manner in the State, Manipur State Legal Authority's member secretary A Guneshor sharma prevailed upon all concerned that prescribed norms and official formalities should be strictly followed by both the programme implementing agencies and the work force.
Prior to implementing a particular scheme there is need for assessing whether the work would last for 100 days as NREGS programmes are supposed to provide no less than 100 working days in a calendar year, he said.
In his address, Deputy Commission (Thoubal) T Ranjit exuded confidence that various welfare schemes propounded by NREGS would be able to significantly improve socio-economic condition of the economically unsound families if the same are implemented in a judicious manner.
Calling upon the people to ensure that they possess relevant documents, such as job card, before joining work, the DC said sincerity of the people and commitment of the programme implementing agencies are essential components to ensure benefits to the targeted group of people.
