ADC Sadar Hills, KTC pledge for 'Plastic Free District HQs'

As part of the global celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary as Cleanliness Day on October 2, Autonomous District Council Sadar Hills and Kangpokpi Town Committee unanimously pledged for 'Plastic Free Kangpokpi District Headquarters' on the auspicious occasion.
The pledged administered by ADC Sadar Hills Vice Chairman, Thangjakam Misao in the presence of DC Kangpokpi, Lalithambigai Kalidas, CEO-SHADC Kangpokpi, T Manihar Singh and KTC Chairman Lunseh Kipgen was taken with an aim to fulfil Mahatma Gandhi vision of 'Clean India'.
The officials pledged to keep Government institutes and its surrounding areas in the district neat, tidy and clean apart from pledging to keep Kangpokpi District Headquarters and Government office campuses and its surrounding areas 'plastic free zone' .
Earlier, Thangjakam Misao in the presence of T Manihar Singh also flagged off 'Swachhta Hi Seva foot rally' under Swachh Bharat Mission at the office complex of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi.
The rally, participated by all Councillors of ADC Sadar Hills, members of KTC, KWWO, KYU and staffs of SHADC Kpi, went through the town via National Highway 2 and spread awareness about the benefits of sanitation and cleanliness.
The participants of the Swachhta Hi Seva organized by SHADC Kangpokpi were all donned with a white T-shirt with 'Swachhta Hi Seva, Cleanliness Drive' print on the front and 'Sadar Hills ADC' on the back while participating in the cleanliness drive and foot rally.
Notably, apart from others, women employees of the SHADC Kangpokpi led by Addl CEO, Lhingkhonei Lotzem, Finance Officer, Rebek Lalparvul and Inspector of Schools, Chinnu Kipgen also took part in the cleanliness drive and foot rally.
Plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other plastic materials collected within the town were also exhibited during the cleanliness drive and later handed over to the officials of DC Office Kangpokpi.
Meanwhile, cleanliness drive was also conducted by other departments including Medical, Vety, Horticulture, all Government educational institutions, apart from DC office and all SDO's office in the district as per report from DC office Kangpokpi.
As part of the observance of Cleanliness Day organized by Block Development Officer, Kangpokpi at Community Hall Daili, DC Kangpokpi also launched People's Plan Campaign for formulation of Village Development Plan (VDP).
Among other educational institutions, HM Higher Secondary School, Keithelmanbi has introduced a very innovative and creative way of enforcing ban on single use plastics in the village yesterday during the observance.
The HM Eco Club students under the theme, 'Go Traditional' conducted door-to-door awareness campaign, promoting uses of banana leave in place of single use plastics in the village.
The students also used placard made of banana leaves that read, "Yes to Banana Leaves, No to Paper", "Yes to Banana Leaves, No to Plastics", "Go Traditional", "Plastics Out, Banana Leaves In", "Paper Out, Banana Leaves In", etc.
On the other hand, NIELIT Senapati Extension Centre has organized a Plastic Free campaign between Senapati Bridge and Toll gate, covering main bazaar area of Senapati Town, today.
Staff and students of NIELIT Senapati picked up the plastic thrown on the road/roadside and dumped at the proper site with a slogan, "Let Make Senapati Plastic Free".
During the campaign, Y Subhaschandra Singh, Addl Director, (Tech) & Officer in-Charge of NIELIT Senapati told media persons that the centre had performed various social services and Swachh Bharat programme at Senapati in the past too.
