Under the objective to improve health of the people, especially young ones, 73 Mountain Brigade under the aegis of 57 Mtn Div vaccinated about 1500 children of villages around Noney area in Tamenglong district today to protect them from the dreaded Hepatitis B, informed a PIB (DW) release.
Putting cost of the project at Rs 2,15,000, the release also elaborated that it was through the tireless initiative of 16 Assam Rifles of the Red Shield Division alongwith local population in raising funds from sponsors, resources from the Army and donation of the AR unit itself that made the project a grand success.
The first and second doses were administered on May 3 and June 3 respectively with the final dose provided yesterday.
On the otherhand, a Vocational Training Centre (VTC) has been established at Parbung in Churachandpur district under the aegis of 57 Mtn Division with Col ASN Rao, Commanding Officer of 12 Madras Regiment located at Thanlon inaugurating the facility.
In his brief remarks the Colonel reportedly conveyed to the Thanlon public that the VTC has been built with the aim of rejuvenating the spirit of the people in the area and providing them a platform to divert their attention and energies towards gainful employment opportunities.
The said VTC has been equipped with a variety of sports stores, a full-fledged orchestra and various other equipments like sewing machine, handlooms etc, the PIB release added.
Further highlighting that the Army has over the past two years worked hard to provide relief and opportunities to the Hmar, Paite and Simte tribes settled in the sub-divisions of Thanlon and parbung, it also maintained that due to absence of civil administration representative or police in the said area the locals approach the Army to express their anguish.
other than providing food and medical relief to the locals, Army has been providing solar lights, water supply schemes and community halls to these far flung villages, the release recounted.
