A combined force of Imphal West District Police and personnel of 39 Assam Rifles gunned down two suspected underground activists during an encounter near the LPG Bottling Plant at Sekmai under Sekmai Police Station this afternoon.
According to police report, the encounter took place at around 1.40 pm today.
Two 9 mm pistols, nine live rounds of ammunition and a Maruti car bearing registration number MN-1K/0144 in which the two slain UG suspected had come have been recovered from the site of the encounter at Tejbari village located near the LPG Bottling Plant.
Police have picked up the bodies of the two slain UG suspects whose identities are yet to be confirmed and deposited the same at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
However, the driving licenses recovered from the possession of the two slain UG suspects are respectively issued in the name of Yumnam Binoy Meitei s/o Tamu of Lamjao Mayai Leikai and Salam Ajit Singh s/o Yaima of Thanga Heisnam Leikai, police source informed.
Meanwhile, the identity of the UG suspect shot dead by Thoubal District Police Commandos at Tangjeng Kiyam Siphai yesterday morning has been identified as Md Fakir Ahamed (25) s/o Itocha of Kiyamgei Konyai Thabi.
The body of Md Fakir Ahamed as well as that of Md Musa alias Ibomcha (35) of Lilong Bazar and Phamdom Inaocha (34) of Lilong Arapti who were shot dead by Thoubal Police Commandos during an alleged encounter at Thoubal Khunou on the night of November 5, though their family members claimed them to be innocent, have been taken away by their respective families after post-mortem at RIMS morgue.
On the other hand, the identities of the two UG suspects shot dead by Imphal East Police Commandos during an alleged encounter at Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai under Porompat PS last night are yet to be established.
