Tamenglong, July 26 2010:
The All Manipur GREF Labourers' Union (AMGLU) urged the state government to reconsider and review the state decision to hand over construction and maintenance works of NH 53 to state PWD from BRTF/BRO.
A press release issued by President of AMGLU, Athoi Goimei stated that BRTF/BRO is the only competent work agency which has been serving the road for the last four decades smoothly.
The improvement and expansion works had also been started since a few years back.
The press release alleged that the state PWD is known for irregularity and misappropriation of funds without proper works and akash bill or drawing bill without work are the glaring examples.
The PWD's working is just like painting with lipsticks for ladies that the condition of the road tends to collapse soon after completion report or even before completion report.
On the contrary, BRO/BRTF/GREF's sincerity and expertise in workmanship is of total commitment.
The road engineers, pioneers, mates, regular and casual paid labourers have no holiday in maintaining the road.
The BRO/BRTF can sill increase the strength if the low paid causal labourers and mates are paid well with increment of wages or encouragement for their hard work, the release stated.
