Ukhrul, September 20 2023:
The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned and reiterated its warning against the unexpected and unwarranted acts of stopping and threatening of innocent commuters and passengers and intimidating of workers engaged in restoration/repair work along the Imphal-Ukhrul route allegedly by "fully armed Kuki militants" .
A statement issued by RS Jollyson, vice president, TNL stressed that the Tangkhul Naga community has been very tolerant towards such provocative behavior 'on the part of the militants' on multiple occasions.
"Even if the act was wrong, we had exercised maximum restraint not wan-ting to jeopardize the prevai- ling peace and tranquility of the region", it added.
The TNL called for an immediate end to such public nuisance in their jurisdiction, which has so far remained peaceful and tolerant despite repeated provocations in the midst of the ongoing unrest.
The TNL further warned the persons/groups concerned that any untoward happening due to their provocation will be the responsibility of the perpetrators and that they will be solely held accountable for all the unwanted consequences that follow.
The TNL has also urged Kuki villagers residing along the stretch of Ukhrul-Imphal highway to "take serious note of such incidents and bring an immediate end to such nuisances lest they are equally blamed in the event of any untoward incident that follows" .
