Thoubal, September 20 2023:
Citing problems faced by the people of Manipur at present despite existence of a government claiming to be people-centric, the Congress party has asked whether the BJP government is existing for creating problems in the state and giving hard times to the public.
Addressing media persons at its Thoubal Athokpam office on Wednesday, Thoubal District Congress Committee (TDCC) president N Lukhoi Singh expressed regret over the present situation in Manipur and said that a government exists for the welfare of the public and to safeguard its people and public properties.
However, the present BJP-led government in the state is compounding problems of the people and making the people to live in the harshest conditions.
He pointed out that prices of essential commodities including LPG, petrol, diesel and others have risen and people are going through hard times.
Poor people are struggling with prices of medicines becoming beyond the reach of common people.
The BJP is looting the people by promising to accomplish task which it cannot achieve and even do not have the desire to perform.
In 2014, the BJP in its election campaign promised Rs 15 lakh each to all the people by opening a zero balance account.
However, the promise was only meant to deceive the public to gain votes, he said.
Lukhoi also informed that the press conference has been organised under the initiative of All India Congress Committee general secretary KC Venugopal to convey to the public that the BJP is here only to loot the people and that there is an urgent need to save the country from the clutches of BJP.
TDCC general secretary Yumnam Basanta Singh, who was also present at the press conference, stated that Manipur is presently burning and it is facing a war.
Under such a condition, it is very unfortunate that the police have arrested 5 village volunteers who are safeguarding the Meitei villages along with the state security forces.
He also stated that during the time of Congress rule, the price of LPG cylinder was Rs 425 only whereas under the BJP regime, one LPG refill costs Rs 1330 which is an act to give more hardships to the people.
