Imphal, September 20 2023:
Claiming that Chief Minister N Biren who swore to protect Manipur by wielding an axe at the foot of Shaheed Minar seems to have forgotten his promises, ex-MLA of Wangoi Constituency Salam Joy has urged the Chief Minister to stop waiting for the Centre's instructions all the time and do his job to safeguard the State.
Speaking to the media at his residence at Samurou Naorem today, Joy said there is no respite in attacks from Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meeteis and that is the major reason why Manipur is still in a restive situation.
He also said that the protracted violence has taken a heavy toll on everyone with no end at sight.

Saying that the role being played by Meetei womenfolk and Youth of Manipur to keep the State's integrity intact is immense, Joy rued that the State, however, is witnessing a complete breakdown of law and order since May 3 .
All these people including womenfolk come out to face the Kuki militants and protect the unity and integrity of Manipur against all odds voluntarily as the Government has failed to do so, he said.
Claiming that ending the violence won't take more than two days if the State and Central Governments put sincere effort to contain it, the ex-MLA cautioned that civil war is indispensable if the Government allows the violence to linger on.
Saying that the Government needs to deal with the narco-terrorists appropriately as their drug business is detrimental not only to Manipur but to the entire Nation, Joy cautioned that the drug business, if expanded, will have a far reaching consequence.
Joy claimed that Central forces not being able to control Kuki narco-terrorists and protecting them is illogical.
Further stating that the people in the valley districts won't protest if the Government controls Kuki narco-terrorists.
Peace will remain elusive if the Kuki aggressors who want to disintegrate Manipur are let loose.
Poppy plantation is widespread in Kuki dominated hill districts, he claimed and added that the Centre and the Manipur Government should destroy all poppy plantations before harvesting.
Some sections of Kukis launching a hostile campaign against Meeteis for stopping poppy plantations is also illogical, he claimed.
Saying that old Kukis of Manipur should extend co-operation in restoring normalcy, he added that Kukis who don't want to stay in Manipur can leave the State.
Appealing to the MLAs camping at New Delhi to mount strong pressure on the Prime Minister and other Central leaders to restore normalcy in Manipur at the earliest, he demanded that the interest of the State, however, shouldn't be compromised while working out the solution.
