MLAs meet Rajnath; Shah working on peace panel

Ruling MLAs currently in New Delhi met defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday and discussed the current situation in the state, with the MLAs pressing for an early solution to the crisis.
After a patient hearing to the MLAs, Rajnath reportedly assured to air the MLAs' proposals and sentiment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an early solution.
Meanwhile, union home minister Amit Shah is reportedly in the process to constitute a peace committee with members from all communities of Manipur in order to contain the violence and restore peace in the state.
In the past too, Amit Shah had expressed his desire to end the violence through peaceful means instead of using force.
Sources said that the ruling MLAs called on defence minister Rajnath Singh around 1 pm during which they presented a detailed account about situation in the state, some root causes including porous border leading to uncheck infiltration of illegal immigrants for the violence, illegal poppy cultivation in the interior hill areas along with associated deforestation and its impact on the natural ecosystem among others.
Highlighting the demographic changes being experienced in the state due to unchecked illegal immigration, the MLAs sought early implementation of NRC to detect and deport illegal immigrants.
They also sought his help in pressurising the Prime Minister for containing the violence.
