Imphal, September 20 2023:
While reminding chief minister N Biren Singh that he began his political career by taking oath with an axe at the historic Saheed Minar to save Manipur, former MLA Salam Joy has appealed to N Biren to showcase his courage at the juncture to protect Manipur.
Addressing media persons at his Shamurou residence on Wednesday, Salam Joy said that N Biren is an extraordinary politician and joined politics with a unique goal.
With the firm commitment to save Manipur and stand for the truth, Biren embraced politics by taking oath with an axe at Saheed Minar in the heart of Imphal.
The courage N Biren had at the dawn of his political journey needs to be exploited now judiciously and move courageously to the path of saving Manipur, Salam Joy said.
Hundreds of Meetei houses in Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi have been torched and razed to the ground in the ongoing violence while several innocent Meeteis have been killed by armed Kukis since May 3.Both the Centre and the state government could have easily contained the violence within few days of its outbreak but the violence lingers, he said and demanded to know the reason behind the continuous attack on Meetei villagers by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
According to Salam Joy, people took up arms to defend themselves as government forces including those sent by Centre failed to protect them and the situation in Manipur could be worse than the present one had the youth and Meira Paibis did not come out to protect the motherland.
