Imphal, September 20 2023:
Leadership Council of Thang-Ta (LCTT) has demanded the government to unconditionally release the five village volunteers arrested by the police in considering of the sentiments of the people.
In a release, LCCT chairman W Brojendro Meitei pointed out that when the state forces were hapless as 'Chin Kuki terrorists' attacked Meetei community and destroyed government properties, the village volunteers and womenfolk came out to fight them and further urged the government not to arrest village volunteers in future.
The negligence of the state and central forces has led to escalation of the conflict thereby failing to protect the life and properties of the people, he opined, while maintaining that as a remedy, village volunteers came forth and even sacrificed their lives trying to save public lives and properties, which actually is the task entrusted to state and central forces.
Amidst such situation, arrest of village volunteers under various Acts and laws on charge of fomenting unrest is untimely and uncalled for, he continued, and added that the state forces were even strengthened by the village volunteers.
