World Suicide Prevention Day observed

The 21st World Suicide Prevention Day organised by Kakching District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) and District Health Society was observed under the theme 'Creating Hope Through Action' at Kakching Khunou Government High School.
The function was attended by Kakching CMO Dr Thaodem Rajen, who is also the District Mission Direc tor-District Health Society, and headmistress of the host School Chingakham Landhoni as chief guest and president respectively.
District Nodal Officer-District Mental Health Programme Dr Khangembam Gopeshwor, District Finance Manager-District Health Society Yambem Shyamo and School's senior teacher Bhagyachandra were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajen informed that mental stress, losing of hopes, loss of properties, loss of near and dear ones may be the cause of suicides.
Stressing the need to prevent suicide by creating awareness to the community, he also pointed out that positive thinking and healthy mental health can also prevent suicide.
According to Dr Gopeshwor, suicide is caused due to loss of hope.
Every 40 second there is one suicide and around 8,00,000 cases globally in a year.
He also stated that woman/girl committed suicide more than their male counterparts.
District Mental Health Programme clinical psychologist A Tomba, who was resource person, spoke on signs and symptoms of suicide.
As a part of observance a spot quiz competition was also organised for the students followed by distribution of prizes to the winners.
The programme was attended by about 100 students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the school.
