Senapati, September 20 2023:
Senapati district has reported one death and eighty two positive cases of Dengue in the last three months.
According to the Senapati District Health Department, there has been an incline in the number of positive cases of Dengue in the month of September.
In this regard, a Health Department official stated that "inspite of case investigation, fogging and awareness programme, the disease could not be contained fully but efforts are on in full swing" .
The Health Department further informed that Dengue cases are mostly found at Senapati District Headquarter areas including Church Road Colony, Bridge Colony, Yapao Colony and Vakho.
In case of any suspicion of Dengue, the department appealed to the public to go for free testing at Senapati District Hospital or for those in the villages, to go to the nearest Government medical health care for check up/testing.
It is worth noting that this viral infection is caused by the Dengue virus (DENV) which is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, in particular an infected Aedes mosquito, which breeds in clean stagnant water.
While many DENV infections are asymptomatic or produce only mild illness, high fever, headache, body aches, nausea and rash, DENV can occasionally cause more severe cases and even death.
Hence, health experts insist that early detection and access to proper medical care greatly lower fatality rate.
Mention may be made that the Dengue mosquitoes are day-biter and are especially active in the mornings and evenings.
