Imphal, July 28 2023: Accusing Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga of interfering in the internal matter of Manipur, effigies of Zoramthanga were burnt in different parts of the State including at Khurai Lamlong Bazar and Lamlai Bazar today.

A large number of Khurai locals spearheaded by Khurai Apunba Meira Paibi also staged a sit in protest against the interference of the Mizoram Chief Minister and later they torched an effigy of Zoramthanga.

One of the protesters, Yumkhaibam ongbi Uttara said that the Chief Minister of the neighbouring State interfering in the internal affairs of the State to escalate the tension is uncalled for.

He (Zoramthanga) should, at once, stop making comments on Manipur violence if he is not going to lend a hand as a neighbour to douse the flame, she added.

She also said that Mizoram which was only formed yesterday can never compare with Manipur which has history spanning thousands of years.

Saying that meira lups in Khurai will not endorse undertaking of any civil society organisations if they don't work together, Uttara appealed to all CSOs to work collectively to protect the State's integrity.

Meanwhile, locals of Lamlai staged a sit-in protest and later took out a protest rally against the interference of the Mizoram Chief Minister.

The effigy of Zoramthanga was also burnt during the protest demonstration.

The demonstrators raised slogans such as "Root out narco-terrorism", "Implement NRC" and "Protect the unity and integrity of Manipur" while burning the effigy.

Condemning his provocative statement on Manipur and the Chief Minister of the State with regards to the current crisis, enraged sportspersons from across all disciplines gathered at Khuman Lampak today and staged a protest demonstration against Mizoram CM Zoramthanga.

The protesting sportsplayers from across the State also burnt the effigy of Zoramthanga and shouted slogans like 'Stop Harassing Meitei in Mizoram', 'Zoramthanga mind your own business', 'Do not interfere in our internal affairs' etc.
