Kuki militants target farmers

Continuing its onslaught against civilians, Kuki militants fired several rounds at farmers working in a paddy field on the western side of Phubala under Moirang police station today at around 7.40 am.
It is reported that the Kuki militants fired five-six rounds towards the farmers from a bunker set up at Chingphei Ching which is situated some distance away from Kom dominated village Haotak Khul.
One villager of Phubala claimed that he heard a conversation among the Kuki militants over walkie-talkie sets to target a particular farmer in red shirt before the firing.
He said that the Meitei side didn't retaliate and there was no casualty among the farmers.
It is further reported that the Kuki militants fired two-three more rounds towards the same site at around 5.10 pm.
On the other hand, Kuki militants continued to unleash terror by firing several rounds of bullets toward Meitei settlements at Tham-napokpi Awang Leikai and Sanasabi in Imphal East yesterday.
One of the bullets hit the wall of an out-house (Sanggoi) and another lan-ded on the courtyard of a house belonging to Thok-chom Rashi Meitei at Tham- napokpi Awang Leikai.
The firing took place at around 3.30 pm when Rashi's wife Pakpi was preparing meal.
They couched on the ground and then fled to safety at Thamnapokpi Primary School.
After the firing stopped, they returned home and found a bullet stuck on the ground of the courtyard.
They also discovered a bullet hole on the wall of their out-house.
Sources said the Kuki militants fired nearly hundred rounds of bullets towards Sanasabi, however, none was injured in both the incidents.
Notably, Sanasabi, Thamnapokpi and Gwaltabi are few of the vulnerable places that have experienced unprovoked and indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants since May 3 .
Central Security Forces are deployed in these areas.
