Manipuri Language Day celebrated in Tripura

The 32nd Manipuri Language Day was celebrated in various parts of Tripura on Sunday with resolutions adopted for imparting lesson on Meetei Mayek in government schools of Tripura.
In a release, Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum (MLCF), Tripura secretary Khoisnam Mangal informed that the Forum in collaboration with Gournagar Meira Paibi and Khowai Meitei Apunba Lup celebrated the day at Khowai New Town Hall, Tripura.
During the function, it was resolved to press the Tripura government commence Meetei Mayek lesson in government schools.
A cultural programme was also performed to mark the Day, it added.
MLCF, Tripura also mentioned that after the event a peace rally was taken out by Manipuri people from Khowai New Town Hall till Kohinoor Complex during which the participants held placards inscribed with words such as 'Save Manipur', No Separate Administration in Manipur', 'We Demand NRCin Manipur', 'Stop Narco-terrorism in Manipur', 'Kuki Stop Deforestation in Manipur', 'Withdraw SoO Agreement and Take Action Against Narco-terrorism in Manipur', etc.
A public meeting was held after the rally which condemned the attempt to divide Manipur by illegal Kuki immigrant as well as demanding that the Manipur and Union governments should work to address the mistrust that has risen amongst the people of Manipur and resolve the prevailing situation at the earliest, it stated.
The release further conveyed that the Forum along with Takhel Leima Tengbahg Lup celebrated 32nd Manipuri Language Day at Govindjee Sharik Makhol Mandop, Golaghati village, Sepahijala district, Tripura.
The programme was marked by passing of resolution for pressing the Government of Tripura to begin teaching of Meetei Mayek in 24 selected government schools along with felicitation of noted Nata Sankirtana artistes Thokchom Madan Singh, Yongkhom Suranjoy Singh and Langonjam Khelendra Singh.
A poetry recitation and cultural performance was also held as part of the celebration, it said.
MLCF, Tripura also conveyed that similar programme was organised by Kokborak and Other Minorities Language Loishang for first time at Jal-abasa, North Tripura district.
