In connection with the ethnic violence in the state between the Meiteis and the Kukis, a discussion session which is part of a series of meetings, commenced under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMU-CO) at Oknarel Laibung in Ningthoukhong on Sunday.
Speaking at the discourse as one of the presidium members, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang pointed out that the present crisis is fallout of the attempt of armed Kuki militants to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Stressing the need to make all understand and remind the existence of a government in Manipur, Nando Luwang said that the government of India has also acknowledged involvement of foreign element in the ethnic violence even as the Meiteis are striving to save Manipur from disintegration in-spite of relentless attempts by the Kukis to balkanise Manipur on ethnic lines under the garb of separate administration.
Accusing the union government of scheming divide and rule in the state, he further enquired whether the para military forces deployed in the state are sent to count the number of people killed and houses destroyed.
He also stated that while valley insurgents are being arrested every day, the armed Kuki militants in the hills are given free hand.
Therefore, under such a condition, we all need to come together and take up necessary measures.
Veteran journalist A Mobi, who was also present at the discourse as one of the resource persons, said that the present crisis needs to be discussed and deliberated seriously.
Meiteis are peace-loving community and hate war while on the other hand Kukis are making all out efforts to destroy cultural heritages of the Meiteis.
Expressing serious concern that the crisis is causing irreparable damage to the Meiteis-Kukis relationship, A Mobi stated that the sophisticated arms being used by the Kuki militants under SoO are being brought in from outside the country.
