Imphal, August 22 2023:
Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) contended that the ten Kuki MLAs are behaving wilfully as if they have been allowed by the Manipur BJP government to go wild like the 'Kao' (feral bull) .
According to the release issued by its assistant secretary M Joykumar Luwang, the party is closely monitoring the on-going ethnic conflict in the state to assess the best way of resolving the same in a peaceful manner.
Although CPI has been urging the central and state BJP governments, no action has been taken up till date and the people of Manipur are left frustrated.
While there are concerns of hidden agendas at play considering the pressure mounted from the people and outside forces, the state BJP government seems to have given free rein to the ten Kuki MLAs like setting free the feral Kao.
The ten MLAs, two of whom are ministers of the state government took an oath to protect the integrity of the state, but are working against the oath itself.
As such, it is strange why no disqualification step has been initiated against the MLAs.
Instead, they are continuously calling for disintegration of the state, while also "encouraging" the mercenaries from Myanmar to fuel the ethnic conflict.
Thus, the people of the state whether from the hill or the valley, have been displaced, similar to the situation at the time of the Second World War.
Questioning under which provision Manipur is going to have two chief secretaries and two DGPs, each for the state and another for Kuki-dominated areas; CPI-MSC said that the ten MLAs have a moral responsibility to see to a long-term harmonious existence.
The party further questioned whether the state government does not have the power to take action against the ten "unfaithful" MLAs.
The party continued that the people would still be left dissatisfied and frustrated if the upcoming special assembly session fails to produce any solution.
In addition, if landowners have been displaced from an area, they still wish to return to their homes and still have the property rights as well.
However, the Meitei localities in Moreh have not only been burned down, their names have been changed into Kuki names, as was found printed on the health cards distributed to the displaced people from Moreh, in a relief camp.
This shows that there is no government in the state, especially when the indigenous Meitei community is being displaced and robbed of their own land and now, their identity.
Thus, the government should conduct a detailed investigation into how the names were changes and initiate strict action, while also rectifying the errors in the health cards, the party demanded.
