More CAPF companies likely to be deployed in state

The central government is likely to deploy additional companies of central armed police forces (CAPFs) in the violence-affected Manipur.
According to sources, the central government is planning to dispatch around 20 to 22 companies of CAPF to Manipur in the coming days.
These additional CAPF companies, which are likely to be deployed in Manipur, were recently engaged in security of Amarnath Yatra.
It may be mentioned here that sporadic incidents of violence, arson and killings have been reported from different parts of Manipur in past couple of days.
Manipur has been on the boil since May 3 after ethnic clashes broke out between the Kuki and Meitei communities in the state followed by large-scale violence.
Over 150 people have lost their lives in the violence and thousands others were displaced in the nearly four-month long violence in Manipur.
Meanwhile, fresh spate of violence and killing has been reported from different parts of Manipur.
A 50-year-old man has been killed in an area under Heingang AC.
The body has been lying at the morgue of the JNIMS hospital.
In another incident, a 38-year-old man, identified as Rajkumar Bung, s/o Ranjit of Moirang Konjengbam Leikai, was shot by unknown gunmen on his left calf at Wangoo Mamei Ching under Wangoo police station on Monday night.
According to a police report, Abung was shot at around 10pm Monday.
He was first rushed to Wangoo PHC for first aid and later, taken to Raj Medicity for further treatment.
Wangoo police has registered a case in this regard, the report conveyed.
The reason behind the shooting is yet to be established, the police informed.
No outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the shooting.
Furthermore, unknown miscreants set on fire at least four abandoned houses, one kuccha hut, and one community hall at Langol in Imphal West district of Manipur.
Six persons have been arrested by the Manipur police in connection with the incidents of arson.
Meanwhile, seven (7) weapons and 81 rounds of ammunition have also been recovered by the security forces in Manipur during search operations in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal Kangpokpi and Bishnupur districts.
