Imphal, December 13 2023:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has called off the boycott of the State Government on the Manipur crisis today.
Speaking to reporters at the Lamphelpat office of COCOMI, Coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said the decision to end the boycott was taken after discussion was held with all stakeholders.
He said the discussion with the stakeholders was held after the State Government invited COCOMI for a talk on the present crisis today at 6 pm.
The points discussed with the Government included the present crisis, NRC update/implementation and rehabilitation of displaced people.
Explaining about the decision taken to end the boycott, Jeetendra said COCOMI has been advised by different sections on many occasions to end the boycott of the Government.
Calls to end the boycott were raised during the Leaders' Meet, organised at Manipur University on October 10, he said.
The matter also came up in a meeting between social activists, intellectuals and journalists at Manipur Press Club on October 16 .
Moreover, a meeting of civil society organisations held on December 9 at Brahmapur took several resolutions including one to end the boycott, he said.
"Due to these reasons coupled with the invitation sent by the Government, a decision has been made to end the boycott," Jeetendra said.
Notably, COCOMI had organised a mass rally and a public meeting on July 22 at Imphal.
The public meeting at the end of the rally had then demanded the State Government to convene a Special Session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly by August 5 to discuss the crisis.
While the Government didn't convene the Special Session, COCOMI had then boycotted the State Government and announced the same on August 6 .
The current violent conflict between Meiteis and Kukis since May 3 has killed around 180 persons and displaced more than 60,000 people.
