New innings for Manipur News

Once a well known paper, The Manipur News has been re-launched today.
The launch function was held at the Sangai Hall of Imphal Hotel by Classic in the presence of Health and IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan as chief guest, Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram as functional president and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) Bijoy Kakchingtabam as guest of honour.
First published in 1977, The Manipur News was in service till November 2000 .
After a hiatus of over 20 years, the Manipur daily is officially back in the publishing industry again with T Chandragupta as its Editor.
At the function, Dr Ranjan Singh said that the role of media in enlightening the public is immense and as such they need to be strengthened.
The Minister further said that every news item needs to be verified before publishing as they play a very important role in shaping the thought of the society.
Khogendra Khomdram, on the other hand, said that journalism is a very challenging profession.
Saying that he learnt many valuable lessons and experience from The Manipur News, Khogendra appealed to all journalists to never forget their mentors and always strive to win the trust of the readers while reporting any news item.
Bijoy Kakchingtabam said that there seemingly is a threat to freedom of press and media in contemporary Manipur society.
Senior journalists, representatives of the media houses also attended the function among others.
