Imphal, December 13 2023:
The 14th death anniversary of Professor Naorem Sanajaoba, fondly referred to as Oja Sanajaoba, was observed under the aegis of Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Trust (OSMT) at the Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Complex, Lairikyengbam Leikai on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, which was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photo of N Sanajaoba, OSMT managing trustee S Bhubon informed that the observance is being held in low-key manner considering the unrest situation gripping the state.
Bhubon recalled that during his student days in the early 1960s, Oja Sanajaoba wrote his first article 'Kadomda Hayenggi Manipur' and till the later part of 2009 penned many articles under the same title delving into the history of integrity of the 36 communities settling Manipur, boundary of the state, and Manipur before its merger to the Indian union in 1949.Altogether he had written over 500 articles, in addition to more than 30 books, said the trustee.
Though he had a tough childhood, Oja Sanajaoba overcame all obstacles and went on to become a law professor and even the dean of Gauhati University, Bhubon maintained and emphasized the need to read books and remember the works of the farsighted scholar in view of the chaotic situation besieging the society and adverse elements trying to distort and destroy the history of Manipur.
As all solutions to the problems besetting the state have been documented in the books and articles written by Oja Sanajaoba, the present generation needs to go through his writings and understand his idea to help in bringing about a peaceful solution to the present crisis, he said.
Bhubon further stated that Oja Sanajaoba's book "Manipur Puwari 21 Suba Chahicha" has reached it third edition and it has become the bestselling book.
Reading this book will enable the people to save the future of Manipur, he suggested.
