M Gourachandra remembered on his 78th birth anniv

Pioneer of private museum in Manipur and founder secretary cum director of People's Museum, Kakching late Mayanglambam Gourachandra was remembered on his 78th birth anniversary on Wednesday.
The birth anniversary event held at Library and Information Centre, Kakching Phou-supat Leikai was attended by commissioner (art & culture) M Joy as chief guest and retired IAS Yengkhom Surchandra as president while Kakching Municipal Council caretaker councillor Naoren Sanjitkumar, director (art & culture) K Dinamani, State Museum Imphal curator Mrinashree Mairembam, RIMS clinical psychology former head of department professor M Akshaykumar and 2MR CO Victoria Yengkhom were guests of honour.
People gathered at the event honoured Gourachandra by paying rich floral tributes to his portrait.
Later, Macha Chanu Kakching president Dr Nongmaithem Pramodini Devi delivered a lecture on Maithong Yamba Gourachandra: Mahakki Punshi Amashug Pangthoklamba Thabaksing' while research scholar Dr Mayanglambam Pravikumar presented a paper on 'Houjikki Manipur Khun nai Ashida Peoples Museum Kakchingna Piriba Khudol'.
Notably, People's Museum was established by Gourachandra on January 18, 1981 after collecting many Meetei Puya and artefacts from various places of Manipur and outside.
Despite facing numerous hurdles in collection of Puyas and artefacts, Gourachandra wrote around 30 books related with Meetei Puya.
