Warring communities advised to cease violence, hold talks

Naga and Meitei-Pangal communities have appealed to both the central and state governments for pro-active exercising of their constitutional obligation to protect of life and property of the citizens of Manipur by disarming the Meetei and Kuki warring communities to prevent wanton use of sophisticated weapons and paving the way for bringing the two parties to the negotiating table by constituting a committee which commands the trust of both the parties.
In a joint release, Jamiat Ulema, Manipur president Maulana Sayeed Ahmed and Naga Christian Forum, Manipur president Th Sokho George said that Naga and Meitei-Pangal communities are deeply pained by the, on-going tumultuous and extremely violent conflict taking place in the state since May 3, 2023 .
It has resulted in loss of many lives, destruction of properties, and displacement of people forcing them to seek shelter in relief camps for months, disruption of people's movement and various occupations, and unprecedented price rise to name some.
The main burden of the conflict is being borne by the poor and innocent citizens of the state including the neutral communities, it added.
The joint release appealed to the parties in conflict to seriously consider for restraining and gradually ceasing all forms of violent activities to pave the way for resolution of the differences through dialogue.
The parties should take extreme care that the other neutral communities are not affected in any way, the release pointed out, while urging all the citizens of Manipur to pray to God for showering his love and grace so that altogether we can find a way out of the present darkness to his fight, of love, peace and harmony.
It also conveyed condolences for the loss of human lives and shared the suffering and sorrow of all those who are affected by the current conflict in one way or the other.
