Imphal, March 10 2024:
Even as preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections have been taken up in different parts of the State and beyond, no such initiatives are seen as of yet in Kuki dominated areas.
A credible source said that Kuki leaders have not taken any decision on fielding candidate (s) in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary seat.
The Lok Sabha elections are likely to be held in April or May.
It is further said that there are no developments related to the upcoming Parliamentary elections in Kuki villages as of yet but the Naga People's Front (NPF) has started preparation to field its candidate in the Outer seat.
Different political parties have also forwarded their list of candidates to their high commands to contest the election in the Inner seat.
The source continued that Kuki civil society organisations and leaders, however, are least concerned about the Lok Sabha elections in view of the prevailing situation in the State but they nonetheless will field their candidate to address the grievances of Kuki people through the Parliament.
Other than some intending Naga candidates meeting village leaders and people at Kangpokpi areas, there are no poll related activities in Kuki dominated areas, the source added.
