2 Kuki youths killed, tension grips Motbung

Tension gripped Motbung Bazar as two Kuki youths who were brutally assaulted by well armed Kuki militants suspected to be KRA (U) cadres succumbed to the injuries last night at Motbung Bazar under Sapermeina police station, Kangpokpi district.
The incident happened last night when well armed Kuki militants suspected to be KRA (U) came to Motbung Bazar from their nearby camp and started thrashing some youths mercilessly on the alleged charges of being drug users, sources informed.
Soon after the Kuki militants left the spot, three of them were rushed to Letpao Hospital located at Motbung Bazar and two of them succumbed to injuries.
The two persons who succumbed to injuries have been identified as Jangminlal of Sapermeina and Jangminlen of Kholep village.
Another person identified as Haominthang (37) s/o Denkhai of Thingbangjang village who also sustained multiple injuries was evacuated to Dimapur for further treatment as his condition was also stated to be serious.
As the news of the death of the two Kuki youths spread, a large unruly mob came out on the street at Motbung Bazar and staged a protest demonstration against the armed Kuki militants.
Some shops and other items were set on fire by the angry mob at Motbung Bazar.
In the midst of the violent protest, sounds of gunshots suspected to have been fired by Kuki militants were heard at Motbung Bazar area last night, said the sources.
With the angry mob and the armed Kuki militants poised to confront each, a tense situation gripped the area for the whole night before reinforcement teams of Kangpokpi district police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control in the wee hours.
The situation was still tense in the area even though a public meeting was going on at the time of filing this report in search of a solution to last night's incident, the sources added.
