Two die after thrashing by KRA (U) cadres

Cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army-United (KRA-U) thrashed three Kuki volunteers at Motbung Bazar under Sapermeina police station, with two succumbing to injuries, and third evacuated to Nagaland for treatment due to seriousness of his condition.
The deceased persons have been identified as Jangminlal Haokip of Kholep village and Jangminlen Haokip of Sapermeina village.
According to police, some cadres of KRA (U) came to Motbung Bazar around 5.30 pm Saturday and started beating three Kuki volunteers present there.
Upon hearing the commotion and thrashing, people converged in the area, stepped in and stopped the assault.
Subsequently, the three volunteers were rushed to Senapati district hospital but two of them passed away at the hospital, while the other has been shifted to a hospital in Dimapur as his condition deteriorated.
According to eyewitnesses the deceased and the injured persons were allegedly chased, dragged on the road, and brutally beaten by the assailants.
The violence unfolded on Saturday evening, as a group of suspected underground operatives reportedly overpowered the three victims around 5:45 pm.
The victims were accused of purportedly using intoxicant substances and extorting money from truckers at Motbung Bazar, situated on National Highway 102, a vital route connecting Imphal to Dimapur, the commercial centre of Nagaland.
Jaminglal and Jaminglel both residents of Kangpokpi district, succumbed to injuries while being shifted to a hospital.
The loss of these lives has sent shockwaves throughout the region.
In denunciation of the KRA-U brutality against the three volunteers, an irate mob gathered in the area engaging the armed cadres in a heated exchange of words.
Later, the mob set ablaze a shop owned by a KRA (U) functionary.
Teams of Sapermeina police station and central forces controlled the situation with the former also registering a case for further actions, the police source informed.
Authorities have assured that the situation is currently under control, with efforts underway to apprehend the armed perpetrators responsible for this heinous act.
