SIMS reserves seats for violence-affected students

Former managing director of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Dr S Kumar has said that the institute has been helping 37 students displaced by the ongoing violence and will facilitate free education to students who passed Class X and Class XII examinations and living in relief camps.
Speaking at the oath taking ceremony of 20 nursing students (6th batch) and 77 para-medical students (12th batch) of the institute held at the institute's Yaralpat hall on Saturday, Dr S Kumar expressed delight that SIMS continues to produce nursing and paramedical students not only for Manipur but also for other states of the North East region with the main objective of developing medical sector in the region.
He said that the institute is providing free education to 37 students affected by the ongoing violence, including 18 currently staying in relief camps, six orphans arid 13 destitute children from the hills.
Apart from this, the institute is reserving 12 seats for violence-affected children who wish to pursue career in nursing and paramedical, he added.
The event was also attended by Imphal East Zilla Parishad Up-Adhakshya Ksh Tama, Manipur Nursing Council registrar Dr A Jamuna, Trained Nurses' Association of India, Manipur president N Tangbi and SIMS additional director Sk Wajid Shah.
