Imphal, March 10 2024:
A resolution to constitute a State level coordinating body of all civil society organisations (CSOs), women organisations or a mechanism to coordinate the organisations was taken during a meeting convened by Taragi Cheisu at Yumnam Huidrom yesterday.
The resolution advocates working together on mutually agreed common minimum programmes with all stakeholders and citizens concerned from time to time based on the principles of equality and mutual respect.
The meeting held under the banner "Apunba Pangal Sagatnaba Khwai Taragi Meepham" was chaired by the chairman of Taragi Cheisu, Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani and attended by representatives of different organisations viz Co- ordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Thawai Meerel, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM), Imagi Meira, Thoubal and Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL), Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) etc .
Taragi Cheisu co-chairman RK Nimai (retd IAS), secretary general Dr P Dhakeswar, vice chairmen P Sonamani and H Premkumar, chairperson (legal wing) retd Judge A Nautuneshwori Devi and chairman (medical wing) JNIMS Director Prof L Deben also attended the meeting.
Conveying what was discussed in the meeting during a press conference held at Khurai Ahongei today, K Mani said that yesterday's meeting was attended by representatives of 52 CSOs and women organisations and it was fruitful.
He, however, expressed concern on the lack of coordination and communication among the organisations while dealing with the issue in Manipur and added that a collective effort is needed not only in defending the State's integrity but also in restoring and rejuvenating the economic lives and resettlement of the displaced people.
Highlighting the complexity of the conflict in the State, he expressed the necessities to exhibit high moral standards in responding to the situation and promote communal harmony.
K Mani went on to state that holding protests simultaneously in the form of hunger strike, rally, blockade , counter blockade, human chain etc shows the lack of coordination among the organisations.
All these organisations need to work together if their interest is to work out a solution to the violence gripping Manipur since the last over 10 months, he added.
The Senior Advocate said that yesterday's meeting also discussed the means to end the violence instigated by illegal immigrants in collusion with some Kuki militant groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.
Saying that Taragi Cheisu will convene another meeting shortly and create a common platform for all the CSOs and women organisations to work together, K Mani clarified that what they suggest doesn't necessarily require floating of a new organisation.
