Imphal, June 10 2023:
Locals of Torbung Bangla have urged the state government to set up a post of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at their village which was epicentre of the commu-nal violence which erupted on May 3.The demand was raised by the locals during a public meeting held at Phougakchao lkhai Awang Leikai under Torbung gram panchayat on Friday.
Villagers attending the meet stated that the people of Torbung Bangla village have been facing the onslaught of armed Kuki militants for a very long time.
The villagers could not even open their shops as soon as night falls as they are threatened by the Kuki militants.
During the communal vio-lence, the Meitei villagers in Torbung Bangla were targeted by Kuki militants and their houses torched.
Even to this day, none of the Meitei could return to their homes in Tor-bung Bangla.
Therefore, an IRB post in Torbung Bangla is very much needed to pro-tect the lives and property of Meiteis and help in re-settling in their homes, the villagers said.
COCOMI assistant coordi-nator Jaychandra Konthou-jam, who was also present at the meet, appealed to the government to do the needful of setting up an IRB post at Torbung Bangla for the safety of the villagers.
He further stated that the combing operation conduct-ed in different parts of the state under security advisor Kuldiep Singh should cover Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi as these places witnessed the worst against the Meetei.
He also expressed disap-pointment over failure to take actions against the armed Kuki militants violating SoO ground rules and attacking Meitei villagers and burning down houses even as Union Home minister Amit Shah assured of taking up stringent actions.
Maintaining that no for-eigner can demand autonomy in Manipur and that the ille-gal immigrants and militants from across the border trying to control Manipur will not be possible, Joychandra said that the chief minister and MLAs should urge the Union Home minister to safeguard the ter-ritorial integrity of Manipur and not to balkanise Manipur.
