Displaced people provided jobs under MGNREGS

Imphal, August 08 2023: As part of the special initiative taken up by RD&PR department for displaced people, who are taking refuge in different relief centres due to the ongoing crisis in the state, jobs were provided to displaced people staying in the relief camp set up at Biramangol College, Sawombung under MGNREGS on Tuesday.

The initiative was taken up after provision of special job cards to the displaced families.

On Tuesday, around 70 job card holders planted 200 tree saplings in the surrounding areas of Imphal East-ICD Block, Sawombung.

The work will resume on Wednesday.

According to BDO Sawombung Kherdananda Potshangbam, the displaced people living in the relief camp are residents of Gwaltabi, Sanashabi, Shanti Khongbal and Yaingangpokpi areas.

The jobs were provided under the initiative of RD&PR minister Y Khemchand in a bid to provide some sort of relief to the affected families.

Efforts will be made to release the wages as soon as the sanctioned jobs are completed, he said.
