Imphal, August 08 2023:
Maintaining that the attempt of the 10 Kuki MLAs to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur, through their demand for a separate administration, is an attempt to destroy the prestige of the House, veteran politician O Joy has raised posers as to why the State Assembly Speaker and the remaining MLAs have not tried to take up any action against the erring MLAs.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, O Joy said that the demand of the 10 Kuki MLAs is an affront to the House's prestige and it is very unfortunate that the Speaker and the remaining MLAs particularly the ruling MLAs have not taken up any action against them.
O Joy informed that he had written a letter on May 28 to the Prime Minister demanding action against the 10 MLAs for their unruly and un-ethical conduct.
Upon receiving the letter, the Prime Minister's Office had in a letter on May 31 instructed the chief secretary of the state to provide necessary reply.
However, he came to know of the reply from PMO only on Monday and the state government is still to provide a reply even after 2 months have passed by.
O Joy also stated that he had also written a letter to the Speaker for taking up action against the 10 Kuki MLAs on May 18.The Speaker after remaining silent over the matter for 2 months has called a meeting of the privilege committee on August 10.Neither the ruling MLAs, assembly secretary nor the party in power has uttered a single word against the 10 Kuki MLAs, he rued.
