SOREPA imposes general strike on Aug 15

August being an important month for the Kanglei/Manipuri society which include observance of August 13 Patriots' Day, the armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has paid its highest tribute to forefathers of the land who laid down their lives while defending Kangleipak/Manipur's sovereignty.
The outfit, however, imposed general strike on August 15 to mark its boycott of India's Independence Day celebration in Kangleipak/Manipur.
The general strike will be effective from 4am to 5pm but it will be not cover movement relating to ongoing war to safeguard the land, medical, water supply, electricity and fire service.
The outfit also said that it will endorse the general strike, boycott, total shutdown called by other revolutionary organisations of WESEA region on August 15.According to a SOREPA statement issued by its publicity secretary MC Yaiphabi, people of Kangleipak/Mani-pur have no reason to join India's Independence Day on August 15 and strongly called for restricting activities and programmes related with the celebration.
Giving outfit's view on the ongoing war being faced by the Kanglei people, the SOREPA said every nation has their own history while identity and nationalism of a nation is a natural product of brave forefathers and the history they associated from time to time.
A nation develops based on condition of natural surrounding and struggles hu mans faced for livelihood, which ultimately becomes history of that nation.
It is proven by the past history that a nation which faces struggle for livelihood continuously have sovereign rule.
Not a particular community struggle for survival of the Kanglei/Manipuri people as well as emergence of independent nation and Kanglei/Manipuri civilisation, the SOREPA said, adding that communities like Mangang, Luwang, Khuman, Angom, Moirang, Khangan ba, Sarang Leishangthem, Aimol, Anal, Chiru, Chothe, Hmar, Kharam, Khoibu, Keirao, Kom, Lamkang, Liangmai, Mao, Maram, Maring, Monsang, Moyon, Poumai, Purum, Kabui, Tangkhul (Luhuppa), Tarao, Thadou, Thangal, Nongpok Haram and others have been living together with harmony in Kan-gleipal/Manipur since time immemorial.
The Kanglei/Manipuri people must not forget that the Khongsai people brought by the Meetei king in the 18th and 19th centuries too settle along hill ranges in the southern part of the nation.
However, some Khongsai people who came later and were allowed to settle in the land with certain conditions are now trying to distort integrity of Kangleipak/Manipur and this indeed is a challenge to the entire Kanglei/Manipuri people, the SOREPA said and strongly called for facing the threat and working towards steps to restore normalcy.
The outfit then reminded Kanglei/Manipuri people to understand how forefathers of the land fought during the Burmese invasion popularly known as 'Seven Years of Devastation' and not to go to the path instigated by India.
