JFD set to march to CM's office

Imphal, September 26 2026: Informing that Meira Paibis will march to the Chief Minister's bungalow on Sunday to elicit the Chief Minister's reply to the issue of census and NRC, the Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation (JFD) has warned security forces not to commit any excess upon the Meira Paibis.

A consultative meeting on the demand for NRC was held today at Nambol Khabi under the aegis of JFD .

Speaking at the gathering, JFD finance secretary Sunil Karam said that the proposed march to the Chief Minister's bungalow is in line with their earlier decision to elicit a concrete reply from the State Government by September 30 on the people's demand for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) .

The proposed march is basically aimed at seeing that the Government of India makes an official announcement to defer census operations in totality and update the NRC with 1951 as the base year in order to distinguish citizens from illegal immigrants, he said.

Even though the people's sustained movement has forced the Government of India to defer the houselisting work which is a part of the census operations, the census exercise has not been put off in totality.

There words "until further notice" is there in the order which deferred the houselisting work.

As such, there is a strong apprehension that the Government may issue a fresh notice and carry out the census operations forcibly, Sunil Karam said.

Similar public meetings were held at Awang Sekmai and Phumlou under the banners "No NRC, No Census", and "No IPD Settlement, No Census" .

JFD convenor Jeetendra Ningomba and other leaders spoke at the meetings.
