ANSAM demands Govt intervention

Senapati, September 26 2026: The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has demanded immediate Government intervention and an independent investigation into the killing of two Naga civilians and injury to two others at Kailengjang, near Taphou Naga village in Senapati district, today.

In a press release, ANSAM expressed shock and dismay over the incident, which occurred on the same day Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Senapati district to attend the silver jubilee celebration of Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, as the chief guest.

According to ANSAM, two Naga civilians were killed and two others critically injured in an attack allegedly carried out by Kuki armed groups operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Government of India at around 3 pm .

The Association said the incident was particularly concerning as it followed the killing of four Tangkhul Naga civilians at Pilong in Kamjong district on September 24 and occurred on the day the United Naga Council lifted its economic blockade following the Pilong killings.

ANSAM condemned the latest incident and said that no political grievance could justify the killing of innocent civilians.

The student body demanded an immediate and independent investigation, identification and prosecution of all those responsible, and effective measures to ensure the safety and security of Naga civilians.

"The restraint of the Naga people must never be mistaken for weakness, and our pursuit of peace must never be construed as acceptance of impunity," ANSAM stated.

ANSAM also expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and the Mao and Poumai communities.

It conveyed condolences over the deaths of Rocky Mao of Chowainamei Khullen village and Kumar Poumai of Laii Shirafii village and prayed for the speedy recovery of Ashiho Sani and Adani Manio, who sustained injuries in the attack.
