COCOMI demands probe

Imphal, September 26 2026: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has demanded the institution of a special committee to investigate and establish the facts and circumstances leading to repeated attacks at the border areas of Manipur.

Citing the killing of four civilians including a father-son duo at Pilong village, Kamjong district on September 24, 2026 by Myanmar-based KNA(B) militants who infiltrated into the territory of India and carried out the carnage, COCOMI wondered if the so called double-engine Government is still in existence.

The killing of the four civilians at a time when the people have been demanding justice for several acts of terrorism perpetrated in the month of September has reaffirmed the general perception that the incumbent Government does not have the slightest concern to protect citizens, the COCOMI said in a statement.

Earlier, on May 7, 2026, heavily armed KNA(B) militants infiltrated into India and attacked the border villages of Namlee, Wanglee and Choro in Kamjong district, and burnt down several houses.

Even as ruling MLA Leishiyo Keishing has asserted that the May 7 attack as well as the September 24 carnage were all external aggression, the Government has not yet taken up any concrete action, it said.

It went on to ask how long the Government will sit idle under the shadow of its assumption "there are some elements who want the violence to go on" .

Even though innocent people are being killed and houses burnt down continuously, the Government has not taken up any concrete action rather it has been acting in a spineless and docile manner, COCOMI remarked.

It further asked if the Government is awaiting escalation of the violence to a point of no return.

So far, over 300 people have been killed in the protracted violence but the Government has shown the slightest concern and it is rather happy with ad-hoc and temporary measures, it said.

Warning that the Government may one day face people's punishment, COCOMI urged the Government to take necessary measures boldly in order to protect Manipur and her people.

The COCOMI further informed that Mayengbam Dhananjoy will serve as its spokesman with immediate effect.
