Govt good at only condemning, not controlling violence: Cong

Even as violent incidents including killings have been raging on in different parts of the State, the Government thinks it suffice to issue statements of condemnation rather than taking any concrete step to control the violence.
This was stated by MPCC president and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi during a press meet at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today.
Ibobi remarked that the present law and order situation of Manipur is quite volatile and citizens are extremely insecure.
From around 2017, mistrust among the communities grew and it resulted in communal conflicts, he added.
People are being killed and houses burnt almost on a daily basis.
The Congress party strongly condemns all acts of communal violence, he said.
Referring to the protracted communal violence, the former Chief Minister expressed deep worry over the future of Manipur.
The hills of Manipur have been witnessing unceasing killings and burning of houses since the last few days but the Government, instead of controlling the violence, has been limiting its role to just issuing statements of condemnation, Ibobi said.
Noting that the Government has been limiting its role to issuing statements of condemnations and handing over cases of violence to the NIA, the MPCC president decried the Government's attitude of unconcern to the loss of precious human lives.
Even though violence and killings have been going on almost on a daily basis, the Government has done nothing tangible to prevent recurrence of violence, he said.
On August 31, three people were killed and several houses were burnt down at N Teikhang village, Kangpokpi district, Ibobi said.
In what appeared to be a retaliatory action, several houses were burnt down at Tapon Khullen, Tapon Khunou and Makui along IT Road on September 1 apart from injuring a villager, he continued.
Two women were killed in another attack at Leishangphai, Tamenglong district on September 15.A 17-year old boy was killed at Upper Takou village, Tamenglong district on September 21 .
A 36-year old man was killed at Lasan Songpibung, Tamenglong district on September 23 .
As many as 24 houses were burnt down at six villages located in Kangpokpi and Noney districts on September 23, Ibobi recalled.
Suspected KNA(B) militants infiltrated into India and mowed down four villages including a father-son duo at Pilong village, Kamjong district on September 24, he said.
The former Chief Minister questioned the Government of India's silence if the carnage at Pilong village was external aggression.
It is the Government of India's responsibility to fight all external aggression and protect its citizens, Ibobi asserted.
When 14 security personnel were killed in a militant ambush inside Manipur, Indian armed forces crossed the Myanmar border and carried out military operations against the militants inside Myanmar.
But when civilians are killed, the Government of India has been maintaining a deafening silence, he decried and added that New Delhi seems to place little value on the lives of Manipuri people.
Observing that the State's law and order has collapsed completely, Ibobi asked where are the large number of Central security forces and CRPF's CoBRA sent to the State.
He also strongly condemned the GoI's attitude of total indifference to the prolonged violence raging in Manipur.
